Best Friends Award presented at Annual HVS awards banquet, January 2009
The Best Friends award is presented annually by the Honolulu Veterinary Society to those contributing materially to the welfare of man's best friend, the domestic animal.
The awards purpose is to foster, promote, encourage, recognize, acknowledge, and to reward organizations, person or person in the State of Hawaii in an effort, action, and enterprise that would contribute materially to the welfare and well-being of man's best friend: The Domestic Animal (to include all farm animals, zoo animals, marine animals, birds and pets including all laboratory animals).
Such awards shall not be limited to those who are directly concerned with animals, but shall be extended to include those in the fields of journalism, government, education, research, as well as those who are concerned for animal welfare directly or indirectly. Examples of individuals who may be eligible for awards: Seeing Eye, Lions Club, Humane Society, Obedience Training, Kennel and Cats Clubs, Sea Life Park, 4-H Clubs, Young Farmers, Science Fair, Medical Research Laboratories, Zoo Keepers, Quarantine Station, Horse Show Clubs, Farm Bureau, and Cattlemen Association.

Congratulations to the Monk Seal Response volunteers recipient of the 2009 Best Friends Award for their monitoring and response to monk seals on Oahu and the neighbor islands.
